Little eager to get back to a race track after Labor Day rain out
SHERRILLS FORD, North Carolina (September 8, 2011)-With the rain forcing cancellation of last weekend’s Bobby Isaac Memorial at Hickory Speedway, Jesse Little is eager to jump back into his Leavitt Racing Chassis Chevrolet and resume his 2011 season.
This weekend’s event at Motor Mile Speedway, located in southern Virginia, means an extended travel day to a facility that Little enjoys when given an opportunity to race on the high-banked half-mile.
“Motor Mile is a beautiful facility. It has got some of if not the best late model stock car drivers racing there on a weekly basis in my opinion. Anytime you go there to watch or race you know you’ll be in for a spectacular show,” he said.
With last week’s rain out Little has had plenty of time to think about this race.
“It (not racing due to the rain out) just makes me more anxious to get back behind the wheel and back to a race track.”
While the race car was ready for a three-day event at Hickory, the team had plenty of work to do for Motor Mile, Little noted.
“Much more goes into taking a race-ready car from our Hickory set-up up to Motor Mile. Instead of coming back to the shop and not touching the car this week we had to swap out a motor and set the car up for the different track length. They run Hoosiers at Motor Mile and that makes a difference in the way the car handles and we must prepare for that as well. Changing the balance and fine tuning everything for this weekend means looking at every little detail just as we do each week to insure we arrive with a ‘sure’ car.”
In his last trip to Motor Mile the Analytic Vision Impala was one of the strongest race cars on the track before an incident ended the team’s night. With that in mind Little looks to focus on staying out of trouble, avoiding mechanical gremlins and completing the main event with a strong finish.
“Unfortunately our last trip to Motor Mile ended under circumstances that neither myself nor the crew could do anything about. Going there this weekend we’re just hoping to get another solid run and I’d like to gain as much experience as possible.”
Motor Mile Speedway is located in Radford, VA and features four divisions of racing on Sept. 10. Little will be taking part in the track’s feature event, the Linkous Paving 150 for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.
