Little heads to 35th Annual Bobby Isaac Memorial with momentum on his side
SHERRILLS FORD, North Carolina (August 31, 2011)-One week after starting from the pole at ACE Speedway which led to a solid top-5 finish, Jesse Little brings his Leavitt Racing Chassis Chevrolet to Hickory Motor Speedway’s 35th Annual Bobby Isaac Memorial race aiming for another stellar run.
This weekend’s race honors the 1970 NASCAR Winston Cup champion who started his career at the famed Hickory race track. With the winner receiving over $4,000 in purse and a unique crystal trophy, the Bobby Isaac Memorial is one of the most prestigious events for a late model team to win no matter what track they call home.
Little has had been a threat at Hickory each time the team unloads the No. 97 Impala and looks to continue that momentum this weekend, he said.
“With our past run at Hickory being a strong one (a top-5 finish), I am really looking forward to getting back there. My approach (this weekend) is different than a lot of other tracks as I am going into this one looking to win and if the car is there I’ll take it. Otherwise, I’ll settle for what the car gives me but my goals are high.”
Getting the race car settled into a feel that suits Little’s driving style are keys to success at any track. With a limited amount of practice at ACE Speedway last Friday night, that success came in a hurry, he noted.
“I know the most important key at any track is a good set-up and a balanced race car. I like one that can be hustled on entry, rotate hard and get after the throttle. With the limited amount of practice we got I really had to focus and be on top of my game. The information I gave my crew chief was crucial to get the most out of the car. Once that’s done I can relax and just go out and race.”
That experience leads to a simple goal for this weekend’s big event.
“I tell myself over and over to just finish (a main event). Most of the time if we get the car close to good our finishes turn into top-5’s. I gain confidence with a good finish and I plan to continue that (at Hickory),” Little said.
The 35th Annual Bobby Isaac Memorial race is set for Monday with 150-laps the distance for late model teams. Ticket information for the event can be found at www.hickorymotorspeedway.com.
